Director of Account Management

You will need the ability to manage communications for development initiatives,

inclusive of digital and traditional advertising.  The position will require implementation and time management expertise for all project components. In addition, you will be responsible for building knowledge on existing and emerging communications tools and tactics, industry practices and trends, as well as becoming immersed in the clients’ business and category.

The Director of Account Management position is considered a key senior management position, interacting at the highest levels of the client and agency organization.  As part of the account and creative team, you will be expected to help craft and execute ideas across various campaigns and media.  You must be able to manage and aid development of creative for both traditional and digital advertising.  You must be strategic and collaborative, with strong interpersonal skills and a passion for creating insightful, intelligent work. You must be strong at developing and managing disciplined and efficient work processes for your teams.  As leader of the account team, you must be able to build and then manage a staff team.

Key responsibilities include: Strategic development, managing the client, client expectations and deliverables as the leader of active clients, as well as responsibility for all account staff members who will be reporting to this position.

Specific responsibilities include:  Client relationship with senior brand clients, strategic planning and implementation, tactical planning and implementation, coordination with creative, interactive and other cross-functional agency teams, staff management and staff growth planning and mentoring, fiscal responsibility/budget management, overseeing performance measurement and reporting for managed accounts.

Specific position activities may include:

Client Relationships:

  • Focuses on establishing and maintaining relationships at senior levels
  • Leads critical client presentations
  • Networks within and across client departments/groups/business units
  • Looks for business-building opportunities and indicators, both within our current client base, as well as new prospects
  • Issue management/resolution with clients and internal teams

Project Management

  • Supervises projects providing direction/guidance to AEs
  • Supports AEs in client presentation and discussions
  • Possesses track record of strong contribution and success on numerous accounts
  • Delivers sophisticated and integrated communications programs according to plan
  • Provides timely and appropriate updates to ownership team
  • Provides solutions to project obstacles and client interactions

Strategic Thinking

  • Counsels clients on strategic level
  • Leads/participates in client marketing/communications plan development
  • Guides internal and client strategic discussions
  • Is an inventive thinker
  • Regularly provides innovative strategic solutions
  • Driver of big-picture strategic expansion

Financial Management

  • Track record of successful and profitable account management
  • Creates or provides input to client proposals
  • Ultimately responsible for profitability of client accounts
  • Provides leadership in agency efficiency
  • Actively negotiates contracts with clients

Internal Relationships

  • Strong communication and relationship with Curiosity ownership and other division management
  • Helps direct reports establish and maintain positive relationship with internal departments
  • Has responsibility for managing direct reports
  • Sets example/expectations for account team to follow in-house processes


  • Works to develop and improve internal process and procedures
  • Works to develop account service staff through coaching and training
  • Successful in the growth and development of reports
  • Challenges others and takes risks
  • Aids development and promotion of direct reports through work plans, coaching, and reviews
  • Gains respect of clients as a valued team leader

Industry Knowledge & Expertise

  • Understands/learns the clients’ industries, the agency industry and Curiosity’s position within the industry
  • Maintains strong understanding of advertising tactics
  • Adds value/improvement to the agency

Qualifications Include

  • BA/BS degree
  • 7+ years of work and management experience in an advertising agency, marketing services agency or marketing position within a retail-focused client
  • Strong project management experience
  • Client/Agency experience preferred in banking/financial, telecom, or other technical/retail/entertainment accounts
